Socks, ties, video games, or gift cards seems to standard Christmas presents in my family. However, I was reading the other day the gift card sales will be down this year due to two things: people would rather buy something on sale (since gift cards don't go on sale) for less money or they don't trust that the company they are buying the card from will even be in business next year. Both are understandable.
Here is an option for you: Check out the Bethany Christian Services Gift Catalog. Instead of buying something for someone that they don't really need - buy something in honor of someone and give it to someone who is in need. Try buying your Mother-in-law a goat for instance... Enough said on that one.
You can purchase a backpack for a child to carry their stuff to school in honor of a friend, a goat to give a family milk for many years, or many other options. Everybody wins.
